Despite strong legislation to curtail unsolicited email, spammers continue to launch millions of spam emails towards unsuspecting mailboxes each day. Spam volume has exceeded legitimate emails according to research firm IDC. Sifting through a mailbox that doesn't have some sort of active spam filtering to find legitimate mail is a time-consuming and frustrating experience and can cost businesses countless hours in lost productivity each year.

ISWest protects all of its clients’ mailboxes with the Mail Guardian spam filtering system, which is designed to make sure that you get all of the mail you need and protect you from the mail you don't want. By scanning each email to see the actual contents of the message, ISWest Mail Guardian goes beyond the filtering services offered by other average filters and makes decisions to allow or "trap" the email before it ever reaches your mailbox.

All trapped email is stored in a database for a week before it is automatically purged. During this time, users have the option to log into our intuitive web interface and look over the spam that has been trapped for them. Legitimate mail that has been trapped can be allowed to pass through to the user's inbox by "allowing" it through the Mail Guardian website. It's fast, easy and saves our users hundreds of hours of reading useless spam each day.

Extra Protection

ISWest offers varying service levels for its Mail Guardian spam filtering service. Every client is automatically set up with the basic level filter, which ensures that each mailbox will filter out the majority of incoming spam emails. Basic service users have the ability to check the Mail Guardian website to see what spam has been "trapped" and release it into their mailbox, if necessary.

With the Intermediate and Advanced services, ISWest offers additional features that give spam filtering users much more granular control over the spam filter for a low monthly fee.

With the Intermediate spam filter, users can create custom rules to protect their mailboxes. This gives them the ability to always allow (whitelist) or deny (blacklist) particular incoming emails based on specific characteristics like sender address, sending server, or particular contents.

With the Advanced spam filtering service, users are able to teach the filter to make decisions on their incoming mail based on their specific preferences. Using each user's specific database information to decide on which emails are spam and not spam, the accuracy of the filter goes up significantly.
