INTERNET SPECIALTIES WEST ("ISWest") EXPANDS ITS DEDICATED INTERNET ACCESS INTO THE GTE AREA.
Westlake Village, CA October 6, 1997 – Internet Specialties West, Inc. has installed a T-1 POP or (Internet connection) in the Townsgate Executive Business Center, which will provide high-speed ISDN and Ethernet connections to local subscribers. "ISDN" refers to a digital Internet connection that is much faster than that of a modem. Dedicated ISDN also allows customers to send and receive e-mail in real time (without having to dial up an access number). Ethernet functions like an Intranet, or network, between subscribers and are the most efficient; economical means of intercommunication today. Click for more info.

ISWEST EXPANDS BACKBONE CAPACITY
Westlake Village, Calif., May 9, 1997 - Internet Specialties West or I.S. West, has doubled its outgoing capacity to the rest of the global Internet. Now maintaining fiber links with UUnet Technologies and InternetMCI, IS West can offer customers even more reliable service. "The single link was fast and wasn’t near full capacity, but in order to provide faster access for our customers and more redundancy we opted to add another link. After months of planning for a seamless integration, we finally turned the circuit up and within minutes customers were being routed dynamically. For example, a customer trying to visit Microsoft’s web site (http://www.microsoft.com) would go out the UUnet Technologies backbone link, while a customer trying to visit Netscape’s web site (http://www.netscape.com) would be going out the InternetMCI link," says Keith McCallion, Senior Network Operations Engineer for IS West.
