INTERNET
SPECIALTIES WEST ("ISWest") EXPANDS ITS DEDICATED INTERNET
ACCESS INTO THE CAMARILLO, EL RIO AND SHERMAN OAKS AREA.
Westlake Village, CA January 6, 1998 – Internet Specialties
West, Inc. has installed several new T-1 POPs or (Internet connections)
in the Camarillo, El Rio and Sherman Oaks area, which will provide
high-speed ISDN and Ethernet connections to local subscribers. "ISDN"
refers to a digital Internet connection that is much faster than that
of a modem. Dedicated ISDN also allows customers to send and receive
e-mail in real time (without having to dial up an access number).
"Ethernet" allow members of connecting offices to communicate
without using outside lines at all. Ethernet functions like an Intranet,
or network, between subscribers and are the most efficient; economical
means of intercommunication today.
By installing the new POPs (Points of Presence) in Camarillo, El Rio
and Sherman Oaks, ISWest has provided a way for local residents and
businesses in the GTE® and Pacific Bell® areas to afford the
numerous benefits of digital communication. People who use ISDN say
that it pays for itself instantly in the time it saves searching the
Internet and exchanging information. Dedicated ISDN connection use
the same copper wiring used in most homes and offices. The difference
is that the Phone Company transmits digital signals along those lines.
Until now there have been two basic types of ISDN service: The Basic
Rate Interface (BRI) for homes and small offices, and the Primary
Rate Interface (PRI) for larger businesses. The basic rate typically
costs 2-4 cents for the first minute and 1-2 cents for every minute
thereafter. Needless to say, this can grow expensive for businesses
that habitually access the Internet.
Internet Specialties West offers a way around those usage charges
with an ISDN off site Centrex/Centranet. With one flat fee, ISWest
provides a 64Kbps or 128Kbps connection to the Internet that is functional
around the clock. ISWest offers ISDN off site Centrex/Centranet in
the Pac Bell® and GTE® territories, specifically Agoura, Westlake,
Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Camarillo, El Rio and Sherman Oaks.
In response to the popularity of this new service, ISWest proposes
to expand even further. Says Drew Kaplan, Chief Operating Officer,
"We are in the process of negotiating a Calabasas and Woodland
Hills Point of Presence for dedicated ISDN connections and will have
these deals completed by March of 1998."
